Hannah walked down the hall, right elbow wrapped in a bandage and left shin in the same condition. She hadn't been able to meet Abe like she'd promised the other day; she'd had to go on a last-minute mission- something involving a hellhound- and now her elbow and shin were scratched up pretty badly. At least the thing hadn't burned her. She hated burns worse then claw wounds.
The young woman stepped through the library doors, limping a bit on the hurt leg. She turned her head to the fishman's tank and frowned. She didn't even know if he was even there, or if he was upset. Maybe this hadn't been such a good idea...

Abe Sapien had a well kept secret...
It was the fact that he essentially owned a "house-shell" in his tank.
Quite so, the bluish humanoid absolutely didn't desire for his secret abode to become known to the other BPRD members (especially a certain half-demon investigator). Otherwise, he probably would never be able to live it down.
And so when Hannah failed to show up at the designated time, Abe deigned it was perfectly acceptable to rest until she finally did so. He reasoned that something unknown happened to her schedule as it did with some humans from time to time.
After some time of blissful slumber, the icthyo sapien awoke to someone entering the library. So, he subtly and carefully gazed out from the confines of his "house-shell" to see none other than the hydrokinetic woman herself.
However, Abe sensed something was somewhat amiss in they way she walked and became rightly worried. As such, he skillfully exited the shell and swam to the glass.
"Hannah, it is wonderful to see you again... However, am I correct that I feel something wrong with you? What happened?"

Hannah had been ready to leave; she was going to turn around, when--
"Hannah, it is wonderful to see you again... However, am I correct that I feel something wrong with you? What happened?"
The woman was startled for a second, and her right hand immediately jumped to her chest, which... wasn't a good idea. "Ow!" she said, as her hurt elbow began to throb with sharp, hot pain. Once it dulled down, she shuddered and lowered both of her arms, stepping towards the glass of Abe's tank in her unsteady limp.
"Some demon chick and her pet hellhounds in Central Park... got called out to take care of it," Hannah murmured, eyes looking down, at her feet. "One of 'em got a hold of my leg and the other got my arm... I'm really sorry."

Abe smiled compassionately at the injured young woman.
"There's no need for you to apologize, Hannah; it was beyond your control. Aside from that, I'm...astronomically relieved you weren't killed..."
The amphibious man frowned when the sorrowful possibility crossed his mind. That was the risk for being an agent of the BPRD, he knew.
Undeniably, it applied to all of them.

Hannah chuckled at that. "Nah, not killed," she said. "Just sorta... battered a little." She looked up and gave him a small smile. "I'm fine, though. I just need a few days to heal before I can go out again.
"So, what about you?" the woman asked, tilting her head to the side. "What'd I miss while I was gone?"

"I have read two books so far," Abe started, eyes alight with excitement from conversing about his books. "Heroes in Blue and Gray, being the first. This vintage book possesses extensively informative accounts of the Civil War and leads somewhat into the Great War, or World War I. As for the other, it is titled Wonder Beasts: Tales and Lore of the Phoenix, the Griffin, the Unicorn, and the Dragon. It's basically a tome that holds folktales, legends and information about many mythical creatures."
The brilliant icthyo sapien was indeed verily content to convey the knowledge he acquired from the precious written material.

Hannah nodded politely when he talked about the Civil War book. If she remembered right, one of the caretakers at the orphanage she'd used to live at had been really interested in that war, and had owned a couple books on it. However, when he talked about the other book, her eyes really lit up with interest.
Being a ward of the BPRD, she had had access to many great schools. And when she had gone to college, she had majored in folklore. Of course, at the time she had been thinking of the knowledge she'd need to be an active part of the BPRD, but the subject still interested her. The young woman leaned slightly on the now-empty book pedestal, resting her elbows at the top.
"Tell me more? About the second one?" she asked, eyes sparkling with a child-like curiosity.

Abe was doubtlessly charmed by Hannah's wonderful child-like exuberance. So much so, he decided to allow its nurturing into full-blown happiness.
"I won't spoil anything for you, Hannah," Abe said in a cheerfully kindhearted tone. "However, I'm more than willing to point you toward enlightenment."
Thus did the icthyo sapien direct a finger toward where the knowledgeable tome was located. It was slightly ajar on a bookshelf near the hydrokinetic female.
An idea suddenly occurred to him.
"Hannah, how would you like to read this book with me? I wouldn't mind reading it all over again."

The woman grinned as he pointed out the book on the shelf. She immediately turned to it and picked it up carefully, holding it in one hand and stroking the spine of it with the other. Her eyes drank in the cover illustrations.
"Hannah, how would you like to read this book with me? I wouldn't mind reading it all over again."
Hannah looked over her shoulder at him, grin widening. "Really?" she asked in a soft voice. "You want to?" She brought the book up to her chest and clutched it with both arms.

"Well, of course. I greatly enjoy your company, so why not?" Abe affirmed.
The icthyo sapien contentedly swam nearest to the book-pedestal.
"Do put it down and let's begin, shall we?"

Hannah chuckled and nodded, laying the book down on the pedestal. Slowly, she opened the cover, trying not to damage it. The girl was oddly happy. The least stressed she'd felt since the whole Hive ordeal had started...
