Name: Aislynn White
Code Name/Alias: Shifter
Nickname(s): Shift, Lynn
Age: Unknown, Early/Mid-Twenties
Gender: Female
Species: Gifted Human
Affiliation: BPRD
Personality:
- Shifter is very much like the felines she spends nearly all her time with. She is very playful when the moment strikes her, but she also enjoys flopping down in the sunlight and napping. She is skittish around those she doesn't know or like, but will fight to the death for those in her “family,” which now includes Hellboy and Liz's twins.
Skills:
- Agile and swift, Aislynn has all the gracefulness of a cat. She can sneak in and out of rooms without being seen, though she mostly uses this skill to playfully frighten the humans within the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense.
Powers:
- Aislynn is considered “gifted” for a very good reason, as she has the ability to change her form from human to any animal she has touched. Aislynn prefers the forms of anything feline, however, and has gathered a lock of fur from any and all feline species known to man, even those that are extinct. She can also go into a “were-animal” form that gives her the enhances senses of the animal, as well as the agility, but she lacks the speed and strength that would come with her full morph.
There are, also, some drawbacks to her powers. Shifting from one animal to another originally hurt the young woman, though she has grown out of it. She can only speak using a sort of 'mind link' with those within her “family” - aka: those she is close to – while in animal form, and sometimes it is only in images. If she is majorly hurt outside of human form, her body will switch back to human. It has been known to stop mid-morph, however.
Weaknesses:
- When she morphs, Aislynn loses some of her humanity, though the amounts varies based upon which morph she chooses. She becomes a bit more primal, especially during battle, and her process of thinking slows down. Also, when she is injured in a morph, seriously injured, her body will attempt to return to its natural form. Sometimes this fails.
She is also seriously afraid of fire.
Family:
- Parents, Unknown
- Adopted Family:
Hellboy, Ty, Abe – Brothers
Hannah, Liz – Sisters
Teodora – Niece
Trevor - Nephew
Trevor Broom – Father, Deceased
Character Likes:
- Shifter likes everyone she considers part of her “family,” as well as anything related to the feline family. She adores her older siblings (Hellboy, Abe, and Liz), and will follow them to the ends of the earth. She enjoys laying out and “sunning,” as well as swimming in whatever body of water she can find.
Character Dislikes:
- She hates fire. Despite loving her big sister, Liz, she is terrified of fire, and avoids it at all cost. She hates when the sun is hidden behind the clouds, despite loving the rain. Her greatest fears are the dark, and enclosed spaces. Anything combining the two is just plain torture.
Appearance or Pictures:
Background:
- Shifter's powers developed a very young age, around two years. Her very first morph was Mia, the kitten her mother had bought her for Christmas. Both parents were then when their daughter morphed, and were horrified by the action. Because of this, they locked her away. She spent years living in the dark confines of her mother's closet, scratching on the door and whimpering – sometimes in human, sometimes in kitten morph.
One day, after her mother had left for the door, Shifter discovered that her parents had forgotten to shut the door completely. With one mighty shove, the toddler managed to force the door open, and ran. She climbed out of a window, as her kitten mind knew to run to the freedom of outside, and began to wander. It was on the streets that Professor Broom found her.
It was rainy, and she was curled inside a cardboard box when footsteps neared. The kitten released a pathetic mewl, though it was meant to sound more like a snarl. The human knelt, pulling her into his arms, and tucked her into his coat. Broom carried the kitten home, not knowing that she was really a gifted child, and placed her in his son's room.
When Hellboy returned to the room, instead of a new kitten, he found a young child asleep on his floor. It was then Broom realized he had, unknowingly, found another gifted human, much like Liz. She could not control her powers, and the child barely knew any words, she was safe, and she was with people who could help her.
It was Broom that gave her the name “Aislynn.” Since she could not speak, and her name had long since been forgotten, he had decided it was best she not go nameless. (Later, she would be given the opportunity to pick her own code name.)
Years passed, and Aislynn grew like any other human child. Well, any other human child that could morph and who had a family made of demons and gifted humans. That's what the “group” was to her: family. And she still considers them as such.
When Broom was killed, Aislynn went through a period of utter loneliness and depression. She did not morph for a few months, which nearly caused her to forget how to use her gift. Eventually she was pulled from the depression by the natural order of grieving, but the death of her adopted father still weighs heavily on her mind. No one really notices, though.

From They Just Won't Let Us Die
"I thought you said seven o'clock!"[/b]
A quietly sigh escaped Mercy's lips as the words pierced her peaceful silence. She ran her hand through her hair, then opened her eyes. She was more than ready to snap, to snarl, or say something smart to him. She already had a line of words ready and prepared to fire off at him. But as soon as she got a good look at him, every single caustic comment left her mind.
He looked different now, for some reason or another. Perhaps it was because he wasn't trying to be cool or calm with her. His eyes were darker, holding a look she knew she had seen before. His posture was familiar, as was the slight warning of anger that laced his voice. Something about him was familiar, comforting... Like a long lost friend she hadn't seen in a while.
It took her a moment to realize she had been staring, and jerked herself awake. She stood, dusting her pants off, and reached for the bottle of water she had been nursing since her day had begun. Once she had swallowed a sip and placed it down, Mercy turned her cool eyes onto him.
"I did say seven," she said, shoving her hands into her pockets; Mercy dug her toes into the chilly dirt, shivering with delight at the feeling, "I figured you wouldn't want to be up at five thirty. It is only your first day in SV." Then she walked over to him, tilted her head back so she could look at him, and smiled warmly, batting her eyelashes.
"So how about we get to work?"
