Name: Jack Michaels
Code Name/Alias: Stitches
Nickname(s): Doc
Age: 43
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Affiliation: BPRD (Antarctica Branch)
Personality:
Jack is a very guarded individual, though he is one of the few that has a real reason to be. Scarred by a betrayal that destroyed his life, this doctor is, unfortunately, a broken soul with little more to look forward to than saving the lives of those who walk through his doors. Most people do not know this little fact, and instead see Jack as a rough, callous man who would sooner snap and snarl at you for getting hurt than actually tend to you. Only one person knows the real Jack, and that's Zurina.
What she knows is that he enjoys all he does. He likes healing; he likes listening to problems and trying to solve them. Even if he snaps at you while telling you what you should do, that doesn't mean he isn't grateful that you came to him. Part of his job of being the medic is also being the “counselor,” though not many people actually come to him with their problems.
Skills:
Jack is a doctor. He knows how to heals pretty much all ailments and injuries that come through his door. He is also quite the problem solver and listener.
Powers: N/A
Weaknesses:
Jack is a broken soul, a man haunted by the loss of his entire family. That, and he's completely human, so normal human weaknesses as well.
Family:
Rose Michaels – Wife, Deceased
Ethan Michaels – Son, Deceased
Carly Michaels – Daughter, Missing
Character Likes:
Even though he won't admit it, Jack enjoys healing those within the base, both physically and emotionally. He enjoys being the shoulder to lean on and lending his ear to whoever needs it.
Character Dislikes:
If there's one this Jack hates, it's traitors and liars. He also dislikes the cold, but there's not really much he can do about that as he lives in the Antarctic. Stupid people annoy him, and sometimes John gets on his nerves, but those are things that he is willing to work past.
Appearance or Pictures:
Tall, around six foot five, with sandy blonde hair and bright blue eyes, Jack was once a very attractive man – and still is, if one can get past the scar on his face. He doesn't do much to hide his scar, since it's a constant reminder of the past that shaped him, but he would honestly prefer it if you, there, didn't stare at it. He dresses nicely, though it's mostly hidden beneath his lab coat.
Background:
Jack had a good life before the Bureau decided to interfere. He had a wife, two children, and a steady job at the nearby hospital. He was a retired informant for the CIA who, after settling down at the age of thirty, had gone back to get his PhD and become one of the most sought-after doctors in the nation. Before the BPRD, he was content. After, he was in contempt.
At first it wasn't like that, though. When the Bureau approached him to accept the job as an informant, he turned them down, though accepted a job as medic when they returned a month later. They Bureau paid well, better than the hospital, and it was enough for his wife to retire and take care of their children when he was taking care of his troupe.
Unfortunately, even the best of medics have a rough day, and Jack was no exception. The Covert Ops group, five siblings, were out spying on a new threat when they were discovered and attacked. Three returned, but Jack was only able to save two of them. The third had been poisoned by a demon and had not returned to the base quick enough. There was nothing Jack could have done, though God knows he had tried.
The oldest brother, Thomas, did not see it that way, though. He saw Jack as not having tried hard enough, or simply being too lazy to take the proper precautions when dealing with his brother. This, along with the bit of poison that still coursed through his body and into his brain, caused the brother to go a mite bit crazy.
Using connections and lies, he managed to get the address of Jack's family, and snuck in one night. Over the phone, he threatened the medic that, if he did not repent for his sins, he would lose his family; Thomas ordered Jack to take a few days off and return home to pay. He did so without question, more than ready to die if it meant saving his beautiful family.
However, that wasn't what Thomas had in mind.
As soon as Jack entered in his house, he was greeted by the site of his wife and son bound in chairs. His daughter was not anywhere in sight, though Jack had no time to think about where she might be. For soon Thomas was upon him, wrestling him to the ground and managing to bound his hands behind his back. Then he moved to his wife.
“My brother you have slain,” he murmured, drawing a knife to Rose's neck, “and so your wife I take from you.” After slicing her throat, he moved to Jack's young son, placed the knife to his throat, “You had a chance to save him, and failed. Here's another chance.”
But instead of slicing his throat, Thomas ended up stabbing the boy in the chest twice. As Jack screamed and struggled against his bonds, the traitor could only grin, mocking him about how he would suffer as no man had ever suffered. His daughter's fate was to remain a mystery to him, and that was something Thomas would make sure of. On the way out, to make Jack suffer even more, he sliced Jack's cheek, forever reminding him of the terror that had occured that night.
Jack was left, still bound, to struggle to save his son. He tried with all his might, but he just couldn't break the handcuffs that kept his hands together, nor fray the rope that kept his two yards from his dead wife and dying son.
The BPRD eventually realized what had happened and sent agents to Jack's home, but by then it was too late. Jack had watched both his wife and son die before his eyes, sharing the last hour of his son's life in sobbing conversation with him.
For some reason, though many believe it's because his healer nature would not let him, Jack refused to retire after that event. Even though he was a haunted man now, he could still heal better than most, and he was a valuable asset. The Bureau decided to sent him to Antarctica until he “could heal.” It wasn't too long Jack realized they just wanted to get rid of him.
Roleplay Sample:
He watched with horror as Thomas, a man he had trusted and loved like a brother, drew the knife back. The knife dripped with the crimson stain of his wife's blood, blood that puddled on the floor, against his son's back. Ethan was crying and screaming, his poor ten-year-old mind not able to handle that his mother's nearly decapitated head was resting against the back of his own. It was a fact Jack could barely handle himself.
“Thomas, please,” Jack begged, struggling against the bonds that held him on the far side of the room, “Thomas, he's just a child. Kill me, strike me down, but don't hurt my son. Not my son, please.”
“Daddy!” Ethan wept, terrified eyes locked onto the gleaming silver that hung just above his head.
“You let my brother die.” Thomas murmured, looking at Jack with an odd sort of look in his eyes. He looked almost...broken as he said the words, “I had already lost two of my siblings, and all you had to do was save the three of us. You could have saved him! You had your chance...”
Jack shook his head furiously as Thomas pulled the knife back, then sent it deep into Ethan's chest. A strangled scream came from his son's lips, and then another as Thomas stabbed him for a second time.
“Redeem yourself, medic. Save your precious son.”
