Name: Elizabeth Anne Sherman
Code Name/Alias: Sparky
Nickname(s): Liz
Age: 32
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Affiliation: BPRD
Personality: Liz is quite sarcastic, gets quiet when she's nervous and likes to cry because crying feels like a normal person thing to do and she likes feeling normal.
Skills: Standard FBI skills from training.
Powers: Pyrokinesis, the generation and control of fire.
Weaknesses: No specific weaknesses but she is not impervious to harm, any blow delivered to her would cause her the same amount of harm as it would any other normal human.
Family: Robert and Diane Sherman – Parents (Deceased). Twin children.
Character Likes: Cold, fresh sheets; a big pillow; long, hot showers; the smell of clean hair; flannel shirts; antique jewelery; big sweaters; silent films; kids; being alone with her eyes closed; cats; snow falling; the smell of pancakes and syrup; watching the pavement as she walks (she finds pennies).
Character Dislikes: crowds; parties; surprise visits; gifts; sleepless nights; Enya, Michael Bolten and Kenny G; the smell of air fresheners; the smell of incense.
Appearance or Pictures:
Background: When Liz was child, she didn't speak. According to specialists there was nothing wrong with her, she was just silent. Until one night, when she was four, she went from complete silence to full articulation. And no one could explain it.
They moved around a lot and Liz had problems making friends. Too smart, too intense, whatever it was, other children just didn't want to play with her. And then, the fires started.
At first it was just small things, perfectly round scorch marks on her bed and teddy bears, but nothing else. The wiring in her room was checked but all was fine. The only explanation Liz could give was that she dreamed of fire that night. This strange occurrence continued to happen, always while she slept, always in limited areas. Her parents began to worry. And so did the principal of her school when several volley balls inexplicably exploded with Liz the only one around.
The church had tried to help her, giving her a small crucifix to wear around her neck. It failed to protect her when, after two girls had chased her after school, her hands burst into flames and even continued burning when she had plunged them into water. Moving came in handy after that, she wasn't around long enough to develop too much of a record at her schools.
Her parents ended up splitting up, they never said it was because of her but she knew it was and she sunk further into herself. One Christmas, when she was 10, Liz received a camera from her father and started photographing everything around her, making up private albums of the most mundane things that became beautiful once pinned and mounted.
And then everything changed. At the age of eleven, after being severely bullied by some children from her school, she lost control completely, exploding in a blast of fire, killing everyone in the immediate vicinity, including her mother. Filled with grief and guilt, Liz ran away, living on the streets as a thief, learning the value of being alone and self-reliance.
At age 17 in a halfway house in Portland, Liz was approached by Professor Broom who, after a brief interview convinced her to join the BPRD. Although at first she planned to run as soon as she got outside, not believing him, she was swayed by the fireproof trucks and federal agents. They told her that there were others similar to her, not exactly like her, but with abnormal abilities and she finally agreed to go with them.
She quit the Bureau about a dozen times, always being swayed back to them. They always knew where to find her as they had to keep tabs on her. She wasn't in control of her powers at first and was a walking weapon of mass destruction.
Eventually, she formed a close relationship with Hellboy, often falling asleep against him on his couch. He made her feel safe and she felt herself falling for him against her better judgement, eventually allowing herself to be with him and falling pregnant with his twins.
(NB:I got most of the information for this from something from Guillermo del Toro. I dunno how accurate it is but it was the most interesting and detailed one I could find.)
Roleplay Sample:(This is from a supernatural forum that I'm on)
Liana held back a laugh as Harper struggled against his restraints in a vain attempt to get away from her. She couldn't help the slow smirk that spread across her face though.
"Get away from me,"
"Now, that's just not nice," she said, her eyes turning black as she pulled the lone chair in the room over to her and sitting on it backwards. She rested her arms on the back of the chair and her chin on her arms, looking at Harper sternly.
"Listen sweetheart, we can either do this the easy way, or the hard way," she said. "And I'm a huge fan of the hard way." She knew silent alarms would have been tripped when she broke down the door and she could hear people approaching the rooms.
"The easy way: you come with me, I take you far, far away from this place, you tell me everything inside that gorgeous wee head of yours and then I let you go on your merry." She tilted her head and one of his restraints came undone. "The hard way: I kill everyone in this building, and some that aren't, torture you until I get bored and then hand you over to Lilith."
One of the asylum guards ran into the room and, not taking her eyes off Harper, Liana held her hand up to him, freezing him in his tracks. He was unmoving for a long time until blood started trickling from his eyes... and then his nose... and his mouth. He tried to scream but Liana kept him silent and eventually lowered her hand, allowing him to crumple to the ground, his blood pooling beneath him.
"So what'll it be?" she asked, the black disappearing from her eyes.
Why do you want to play this character?:
Fire is awesome. Liz is awesome. It's all full of awesomeness.
