When they got to the building, Ty opened the door, noticing that Cass seemed uneasy, and hid behind him. "It's okay," he comforted. "You don't have to interact much if you don't want to. There's someone I want you to meet, though."

Hannah trotted down the hall, clipboard in hand as she stared intently at the notes about the dead Hive she had written earlier. This man had made what seemed like the perfect predator. The only problem was how stupid they seemed to be. Damn... if only she knew something about those collars. She hoped Ty would bring home a live one, soon. She wouldn't experiment on it; she couldn't stand animal testing. She just needed something to observe. The movement, how fast it went... every little bit helped.
And that's when she saw them at the entrance. She grinned. "Hey, bro," she said. She glanced down at the creature at his feet, looking straight into its eyes. "Woah, those things are even more beautiful close-up... how'd you get it?"

"Hey, sis," Ty said, smiling back. "Yeah. Amazing, ain't she?" He knelt beside Cass, scratching her ear. "Hannah, this is eight....four...Hannah, this is Cass. Cass, Hannah. I saved her earlier tonight. She just needed a friend."

Cass stayed where she was and said, "My number is 42184, Master Ty..." She looked at Hannah when she looked at her. She heard Ty call her sis and then say her name was Hannah.
"Hello, Sis...Hannah. Sis Hannah...." Cass sat down. She wasn't too sure of what she was supposed to do now.

Hannah frowned, realization hitting her. "She doesn't have a collar..." she murmured. "And she seems... smarter then that one that bit you." The woman scribbled something on her clipboard, biting her lip as she did so.

Ty looked at Hannah. "Yeah. I found some stuff out. And it's really interesting." He looked down at Cass, not feeling comfortable discussing this in front of her. He thought a moment. "See, from talking to her, I learned about the collars. They link them to a central mind. And when a collar is broken, then that one is disconnected, making them smarter, yet depressed and rejected by the others."

Cass walked over to the woman with the clipboard and sniffed at it. "What are you writing?" She wasn't sure of what to think of her, so she didn't say anything else. She noticed Ty looking down at her, and she figured he wanted to speak privately to Hannah.
"I will wait outside, Master Ty." Then she walked out and lay down, staring at the stars. She felt the depression screaming at her to run, but she ignored it then.

Ty started to follow, but knew he needed to talk to Hannah. He just prayed that Cass would stay on the porch, or at least in the yard. "Okay....I guess you want to know more about her," he said, moving to where he could see Cass outside through the window."

Hannah nodded. "Just tell me everything she's told you," she said, chewing on the inside of her cheek. She put a blank sheet of paper at the front of her clipboard; she had filled up the other. "And later, I need to observe her moving around, maybe see how fast she can go. But that's all I'm gonna need from her. I won't do any animal testing or anything."

Ty watched Cass out the window as he spoke. "Okay. The creatures' brains is linked to...I'm guessing either that guy, or a queen or something, by the collars. If the collars are broken or taken off, that green light goes out, and the creature is disconnected."
He sighed. "Although, being disconnected also depresses the crap outta them. Cass was trying to get herself killed when I found her. Which is why I'm keeping an eye on her. And, apparently, she sees me as her new master..."

"Well, that's it, then," Hannah said. "We kill that guy or the queen, or maybe disconnect them. And that takes the foundation right from under the entire species. Millions of them, free and disconnected. And then the man has no defenses."

Ty thought a moment. "True, but, that's a real risk. I mean, these creatures only do what they're told. But, if we do that, disconnecting all of them, they'd all be super-depressed. Like I said, if it wasn't for me, Cass out there would have killed herself." He sighed as he thought about it. "Sure, they were created by a madman, but look out there at Cass. They're a beautiful and amazing species...I'm not happy about having all that blood on my hands, especially when it's the guy's fault."
He sighed again, staring at Cass. "I...I don't know what to do. I mean, I will...but only if there's no other option...."

Hannah frowned, and nodded. "Yeah, I guess you're right..." she said. "But I don't know what else we could do... I mean, either we kill them all, or have them kill themselves. Those are our only options at the moment." The woman shugged and gave a sigh.
"But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. And since we can't seem to find the Hive, we have to wait for them to come to us."

Cass was lying down for a few moments, thinking about depression. She felt every ounce of depression that could be felt. She couldn't lay there anymore, so she stood up, unaware of what Hannah and Ty were talking about.
Cass went into the yard, looking at things curiously, and sniffing at other things. She snorted at a flower and then sat down again, staring up into the sky, wondering if she would ever feel happy again.

Ty nodded. "Yeah. I know. I hope there's a way around that, but if that's the only way to stop this madman, then I'm for it...though I don't like it." He looked out at Cass as she walked around a little bit. He could tell she was still feeling down. "She looks...so sad..." he said. "I'm going to go talk to her...maybe see if I can help somehow..."
He walked outside, and sat next to Cass, putting his arm around her. "I just want you to know, I'm here for you."
